Statement of Doctrine

First Baptist Church of Yucaipa 

Section A: The Word of God:  We believe that the Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testament Scriptures, is the Word of God, fully inspired and without error in the original manuscripts, written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and that it has supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21). 

Section B: The Trinity:  We believe that there is one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons; that these are equal in every divine perfection; and that they execute distinct but harmonious offices in the work of creation, providence, and redemption (Matthew 28:18-19; Mark 1:10-12; 2 Corinthians 13:14; 1 Peter 1:2). 

Section C:  God, the Father:  We believe in God, the Father, an infinite, personal Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power, and love.  We believe that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men, that He hears and answers prayer, and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ (John 3:16-17, 4:23-24; Revelation 4:8-11). 

Section D: Jesus Christ:  We believe in Jesus Christ, God's only begotten Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit.  We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, and teachings.  We believe in His substitutionary atoning death, bodily resurrection, ascension into heaven, perpetual intercession for His people, and personal, premillennial, and imminent return for His church (Matthew 1:22-23; Luke 1:35; John 1:14, 8:58; Acts 1:9-11; 10:37-43; 1 Corinthians 15:1-6;  2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Thessalonians 1:10, 4:13-18; Hebrews 7:25; 1 John 1:7; 2:1-2; Revelation 3:10, 19:11-20b). 

Section E: The Holy Spirit:  We believe in the Holy Spirit who came forth from the Father and Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and to regenerate, sanctify, and empower all who believe in Jesus Christ.  We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells all believers in Christ and that He is their abiding helper, guide, teacher, seal, and interpreter of the Word (John 14:26, 16:8-11, 13-15; Acts 5:3-4; Romans 8:14-17; 1 Corinthians 2:10-16; Ephesians 1:13-14).
